Dairy UK represents the entire dairy industry supply chain in the UK and dairy farmers are given a powerful voice through the Farmers’ Forum.
This committee meets quarterly to discuss an independent agenda of farming matters and is represented on the dairy UK Board by two elected members.
Chairman Lyndon Edwards farms in Chepstow. Along with his Vice-Chairman, they are responsible for representing the views of farmers at the heart of Dairy UK.
The primary function of the Forum is to provide advice to the Board of Dairy UK on policy matters affecting the sustainability of UK dairy farming. The policy positions adopted by the Forum therefore have a direct impact on the direction of Dairy UK policy.
Forum members are provided with a means of interaction with government departments and agencies by officials attending meetings to discuss specific topics of interest. Issues tackled by the Forum include eradication of Bovine Tb, CAP implementation, the Dairy Package and EU dairy policy. This allows the Forum to formulate its advice to the Board.
Forum members consist of farming representatives from milk purchasers along with representatives from the RABDF, FUW and the Chairman of RTADS. Members of the Forum also sit on several Dairy UK groups including the Antibiotics Working Group, the Voluntary Code of Practice Working Group and the Economics and Policy Committee.
